Dana and masked, I feel your pain. The last thing we need is such an increase in cars, which will lead to an increase in roadbuilding and an increase in oil drilling and so on  and so on.

It seems though that it's an inevitability at this point. Might as well try to look on the bright side. At least they aren't SUV's or some other hummer type vehicle

Sure I'd buy one. I've said for a long time a cheap car, if reliable would sell great. Most people don't necessarily want all the bells and whistles that a lot of cars come with today. In fact I'd say a cheap car may be better for the environment then a lot of the high horse power cars being produced today. but I'll also bet you'll never see it in the US.

Cheap cars, there is no such thing. In the long run it will cost more to 'fix' the climate damage. And hang on, where is everyone going to drive these cars, oh yeah, on all the new roads they are going to build to ease the congestion... *sigh*

No, I'd rather have an environmentally friendly mode of transportation than some cheap car.
