Do you want a driver who races for the chase or who races for the win?

i heard something during clint bowyer's "raceday" interview that really brought home to me why i love to watch kyle, carl, and junior each week, and why i find it hard to care at all about how bowyer finishes. kyle, carl, and junior are all deadly serious this year about racing to win EVERY RACE.

admittedly, they have their eyes on the points, as they should, but that's not what i'm asking.

when i heard clint on raceday yesterday, i had to back it up. it sounded good to start out, but took a real dump at the end if you ask me. he said (and i paraphrase), he just wanted to stay out of trouble and on the lead leap till near the end, then hopefully end up in the top 10. the top 10!!!

granted, that's nice and all, but is that the talk of someone with the fire in his belly? how is someone supposed to get fired up about a driver for whom that is his ultimate goal?

what do you all think?

  1. I like to see drivers race for the win, but not to do something stupid that might cost him a spot in the Chase. The winner always gets the most points in a race.

  2. I like watching a race with the driver trying to win every race.

With the new nascar chase format(we found out last year you can be 400 points ahead and when the chase starts 7th place is 20 points ahead) you have to have the wins to insure your gonna be first in the chase when it starts.

top tens before was cool but not now.

Besides I think drivers are paid to win races...

by the way wheeler you need to get some skin on your head

    Kyle doesn't cheat,,,,,,,,,,

The same thing was said about the most Loved man in nascar history--if you remember right.

  3. i agree with u and the top dude EXCEPT FOR ONE THING KENSETH IS ONE OF THE BEST

  4. In my eyes racing for wins is racing for the chase. The more wins you rack up the more of a lead you get over everyone else when they reset the points. Now guys that are up front (kyle and dale) should have no problem taking risks and going for the win because they have a race or 2 buffer worth of points and still stay in the top 12. Guys that are less then 1 dnf from falling out don't have that luxury and so if they aren't near the front (top 3) at the end don't even bother trying to force their way up for the win.

  5. I think someone who races for the win is more fun to watch.  I know it's smart to be careful and finish the race well.  I just don't think that it would be very fun if all the race car drivers did that.  You wouldn't want to watch the races then.

  6. GOOD QUESTION!!! About time we got something out there like this.  I like to see my driver win, but then again a Championship is better. I like to see them try for the Championship. Sure a win here and there will help you get to it closer, but that's what it's all about is the Championship.

But i do like to see my boy in victory lane here and there, although it has been 73 long races. Soon to be 74 LOL!!!

  7. one who will race to win, forget the chase it sucks

  8. I agree with you... but the fact is 18, 99, and 8 are capable of winning just about every week so of course they aim to win. 07 isn't that capable he got lucky last week when kyle and jr crashed to give him a win but he usually just hangs out around the 10-20th. its kinda like kyle petty would be super happy to get a top 20. clint bowyer is more like matt kenseth to me very consistant but very rarely the best.

  9. Race for the win, race for the chase, are the same thing.

they want to stay in the chase to win,.

if you don't have a car that can stay out in the front and win, then you want to stay in the top 10 and that's a pretty nice place to be, in the end......

  10. both, if you race for the win you are racing for the chase

  11. Second place is only the first looser. Give me someone that races for the win and the points for the chase will come.

  12. With the crazy season and just the stuff that has gone on this yr...I'd say consistency is gonna play out which could at this time help Burton, Bowyer or Dale Jr. Wouldn't it be wild if the guy who wins the most races doesn't win the championship..LOL  WTF who knows at this state in the game..I like a great consistant driver.. I think we are going to see a ton of different winners this yr in Cup...no one is going to win 10 races.. Oh c**p here we go again Nascar is going to tweat something again.....Oh c**p!!

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  13. i want a driver to win races clear and fair not cheating his way to wins like kyle bush does

  14. WIN!!!

  15. i dont think clint is suggesting luck i think he is more in the line of be their til the end and let wins come to you jeff burton is alot like that to in fact look at both their wins this year the 2 front runners wrecked each other they won from 3rd. they might not have had the best cars those days but their patience got them the W.
