Rep. John Lesch (St. Paul) has authored a bill which aims to ban akitas, chow chows, rottweilers, pit bulls, and wolf hybrids or mixed-breed dogs with any of the above traits. This bill will be considered by the House Committee on Public Safety and Civil Justice at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Please contact the members of the committee and urge them NOT to support this bill.

I called and left messages for each of the committee members and it took less than an hour.

If you do call, A Rotta Love (http://www.arottalove.org/docs/BSL_Citizen_Packet_FINAL.pdf) recommends to please be calm and to the point. Use good grammar and be polite. Just give them your name and tell them that you do not support Rep. Lesch's bill banning specific breeds and you would encourage them to do the same.

Staff are keeping track of the calls.

The committee members & numbers can be found here: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/comm/committeemembers.asp?comm=6000

Thanks!

  1. It sounds like a great bill to me.  Some places require owners of dangerous animals to carry high insurance, but what good does that do when a child is mangled or maimed?

It is like gun control.  People should be given some benefit of doubt, but the guy with an RPG and missile launcher should be disarmed.

I respect nature and protection of endangered species but most of these breeds were created for purposes that have no place in a civilized world.
