Do you want to know how close Rafael Nadal is to the number 1 ranking and Federer?

When i say close, i mean real close...

Wertheim writes of the Nadal-Federer rivalry: “… the two players show not merely mutual respect but a fondness for each other. Federer said that even as their final showdown loomed, he sought out Nadal in the locker room to chat. Asked last week to name his favorite sportsman, Nadal listed Spain’s soccer team, Tiger Woods and . . . Federer.”

yes. nadal should close in the #1 spot by the end of 2008. if he does well at the U.S open and continues playing like he has been there is no way federer or djokovic can catch him

They are 545 points apart. I REALLY hope that Nadal trails Federer for the #1 spot. I don't like Federer too much, and Nadal deserves it more!! =O)

When the rankings be released nest week, nadal's ranking will be diminished by 250 points for not defending his Stuttgart title. However nadal can be number 1 if he reach at least the semis of montreal and cincinnati masters and the US open and let us hope he can get at least a silver medal at the Olympics which will award him 250 points. If this is the case nadal will be the new number 1.

I know the gap between them now after Wimbledon is a 545 points deficit and Rafa is itching closer and closer to getting numero uno. It wouldn't surprise me if before the US Open that he does achieve the number one ranking, but he probably won't keep it for long, but hey if you get lucky enough to be number 1 than good on you! I'm not surprised at all that Rafa would list Fed as his favorite sportsman, he has a tremendous amount of respect for Fed and what he's brought to tennis, and Fed feels the same way about Rafa. That's the way sports should be, and that's also why Fed and Rafa keep accomplishing in their sport they have respect and they remain humble no matter what. Gotta love both of them!
