I was taught to always do this but I'm from a small Southern town and was wondering if people did that in more urban areas.

  1. I do but then I am from the South. I have noticed that in big cities north and south, that they don't wave.

  2. Always.  And I live in a very large city.

  3. i do.     but most don't.  it is called being courteous and we are rare.  Most city drivers are very rude.  They will cut in front of you even if there is not any room for them.

  4. yes...its the polite thing to do...i hate when i let people in and they dont wave to me....theyre pretty stupid...

  5. I wave at people who give me the right of way. I have a Jeep Wrangler and wave to other Wranglers.

Being from New Jersey, I also wave at people who cut me off, block an intersection, drive too slow and stupid people. But I only wave with one finger.

  6. where i am from (wisconsin) yes, we do that.  and since most of the time im putting around on a little scooter, i thank god people do that.  for some reason people seem to think that because im on something thats about the size of a motercycle im just gonna blow all the traffic laws and stop signs.  the hand jestures are my only way of telling people that "just because im smaller than you doesnt mean i dont have to follow traffic laws"...

  7. I don't generally thank people who do what they are supposed to do.  If you signal properly to merge or change lanes, it is their responsibility to let you in.

  8. I do, i'm a country person & they do it in the city here too (from Ireland) - it'd be rude not to, lol

  9. i do it,and I'm from the south too ,its shows courtesy to the driver that let you in that's all,we do it out of respect, they really don't have to let you in if they don't want to so its alright to do this,i let people in though and they don't always do it,good luck.

  10. My mother does that and she told me when i asked why she did that that it was a thanks and appreciation of the  person letting you go. i think its because after waiting a while and someone lets you go that your being nice and waving a "thanks" idk though.

i hope i helped and good luck

  11. Whatever you do, DO NOT WAVE PEOPLE THROUGH TRAFFIC OR INTERSECTIONS _EVER!_

If that person takes your signal, and goes through the intersection, and something bad happens to them, they will tell the officer that responds to the scene that YOU waved them through, that YOU told them to go, and YOU will be the one in trouble for any accidents.

If you don't believe me, talk to a lawyer.  They'll tell you the same thing.

Because of this, I never raise my hands off the steering wheel while I am driving.  Anyone can mistake a hand gesture as my sign that they can do whatever they are thinking of doing- turning, proceeding, whatever.

    Don't risk it!!

  12. I do, but i'm not from like a major city. but i have seen a lot of others wave at me, but thats just in my suburb

  13. I live in a city and I do wave at people who let me in (also when I s***w up, just to let them know I feel like a moron already).

Most people don't, but a lot do, it all depends on if they are paying attention, having a bad day, or just an a$$. Keep doing it, it makes you feel better than those who don't/

  14. well i do it, im from the south too.

so i dont really know, i say do it just cause i dont see someone getting mad for you being polite.

Just smile or something when you do it so they know that its intended for a thank you.

  15. Yep, I do. It makes me really happy! Small things like that keep me from flipping out when I'm driving.
