Question:

Do you wear contacts!? Please help me!?

I'm having an argument with my mother, and I have a few questions. Experience is good. But, if you can, please give me a tangable website.

1. Is it possible for a contact to go back up inside your eye?

2. Do they still make contacts that you wear for four - five years? Not all at once, but you like take them out every day, and wear them the next day for four to five consecutive years.

3. Are the contacts that you wear for a month and then get a new pair (again you don't wear them day and night, in other words constantly) for people who barely need contacts at all?

And basicly, anything and everything you want to tell me about contacts. This for me and for my mom, not to win a fight. I want to learn here, especially if I'm going to be getting them. I really appreciate your help! The more answers, the better!!!!!

  1. I have been wearing contacts for a year.

    1) It's possible to upwards behind your upper eyelid if you rub your eyes hard. If this happens, it's no biggie. Just look down, lift up your eyelid and use your finger to push it back down into place. Piece of cake! But other than that, your contact can't go anywhere.

    2) No, they dont! When you wear them too long, bad stuff can build up on the lens.

    3) Absolutely not. All contacts are for everyone.

"My mom keeps insisting you buy one pair and wear it for years. I know they used to make those, but they arent as common nemore because they build up a lot of bacteria, even when you do clean them."

Those are very uncommon kinds that are actually hard, like peices of hard plastic in your eye. They don't give out these kinds much anymore, especially teens.

  2. i wear contacts and no they dont slip behind your eyes they are very comfortable and afordable!!

  3. 1.  It is possible for a contact to get stuck under your lid or on the side of your eye, but it cannot get BEHIND your eye.  Your eye is covered by a layer called the conjunctiva that connects to your lids and prevents this from happening.

    2.  Yes, hard lenses can be worn for years, but most people stay away from these because of the initial discomfort.  Soft contact lenses cannot be worn for this long.

    3.  Monthly contacts are for whoever wants them and whoever has healthy enough eyes for them.  Your optometrist would obviously have to approve you for this sort of wear.

Soft contacts are really safe as long as you take care of them correctly.  Most people who experience problems with them wear them too long, sleep in them, or don't clean them properly.  You'll have to talk to your optometrist to find the right contacts brand and type for your eyes.  Good luck!

  4. 1. it is not possible... I had the same fear. but when i went ot get my contacts she told me to practice putting them in and taking them out before she let me go home and I was like "I don't want to aciddentally make it roll in back of my eye. and she said that it's just a myth and thats impossible.

    2. No. I think the most you can get it yearly.

    3. no. the monthly contacts are for all different kinds of perscriptions.

I got contacts about a year ago and the first day putting them in and taking them out took me a half hour but then after that I got used to it really fast. You just can't be afriad to touch your eye. and if and when you do get contacts, if your eyes get a little red the first couple weeks don't be afraid because all it is is a little irritation that will go away when you take them out that night. good luck!

  5. Hi... I wear contacts

    1. NO it is not possible for the contacts to go back inside your eye, your iris part holds it there

    2. I don't think they do

    3. It really doesn't matter whether you really need them because you have bad eyes or not, you still get the same wear out of them. Normally you don't wear them day and night anyways... but yes I think you can buy 1 month disposable contacts, or 2 week or daily ones

Also if you go talk to your eye doctor I bet they can tell you about them, and give you a brochure and all that stuff... that's what I had to do... I also had to watch a video at the eye doctor's office!

They are comfortable and aren't annoying... and you don't get weird tan lines from glasses and you can wear sunglasses!

    So Good Luck!

  6. Okay.

    1) No, your contacts will not slide into your head and get lost forever. It's impossible, as far as I've ever heard. However, your dad is half-right. Your contacts can, and will, occasionally come off your cornea. Don't worry though - if you don't blink it out, it might be uncomfortable, but they will merely be under your eyelid. Usually this happens when the contacts folds in on itself after slipping out of place (or so I've found). You'll just have to go the the bathroom, wash your hands, figure out where it is, and blink, use your finger (over your eyelid) to push it, or move your eye like mad until it moves to a place where you can get it/blink it out. It sounds scary, but you'll be used to touching your eyes from putting in contacts, and although it might be uncomfortable, it won't cause any damage. It's kind of scary the first time, but it happens occasionally to everyone. I've had contacts for over two years and it's happened to me maybe three times? More often your contacts will come off your cornea but settle right back where it belongs after you blink a couple times and move your eye around.

    2) You will be given disposable contacts. It's almost certain. They will probably be meant to be worn for either two weeks or a month. Once you're used to them, you will probably be told to limit wearing them to 10 or 12 hours a day whenever possible; but don't worry - nothing bad will happen if you where them from he time you get up to the time you go to bed. If they're bothering you, wearing glasses for a day gives your eyes time to rest. Take them out every night, but if you forget, don't worry. Your eyes will probably feel dry, but nothing serious will happen. Contacts just limit the amount of oxygen tot he eye, so it's best to take them out when you don't need to be wearing them (ie, night). If you sleep with contacts, you should give your eyes a day or so to rest, but if you can't do that, take them out and give them a quick rinse. It'll make them more comfy. :) Carry a small bottle of solution and a case around with you in your purse so you're prepared if you end up sleeping at a friend's house unexpectedly/if you're travelling for a long time/you forget you take your contact supplies with you camping and can't get to a store because it's too late or far/whatever. It's better than dry-feeling, uncomfortable eyes!

    3) Your dad is complete off on this one. I'm pretty blind without contacts and I wear mine for a month. (Technically, I wear them longer, but they are SUPPOSED to be worn for a month. I usually wear mine until they feel too uncomfortable (this is from protein build-up, which will occur no matter how carefully you clean your contacts as well as regular wear-and-tear), or until they tear. Never wear your contacts if they are ripped or missing a piece (mine tend to "chip" at the edge when they get old). I've never had one rip in my eye, but my friend has. It's not scary - it just came apart in two bits, and she simply took them out and put in new ones. Kind of like "losing" a contact. Uncomfortable but not serious. So no; most people wear disposable contacts these days and most of these people would definitely be useless without contacts. There is no way I could drive, work (I have a summer job as a cashier), play sports, or watch TV without my contacts. I can use a computer (from about a foot and half away), read a book, write, etc. without them. My mom has ones that she replaces every month as well, and her vision is even worse.

My apologies if I sound a bit like a contacts-for-dummies guide.

Contacts cost more than glasses and take a little more work + care, especially to clean (many solutions brag that they are "no rub" but it's always best to give your contacts a rub with clean solution before soaking them, according to my optometrist). You'll need to visit an optometrist to get your contacts anyway to have your eyes examined (they always re-examine your eyes before you can get contacts if you've never had them), so take your questions there and get everything double-checked and well-explained. :)

  7. well my sister has  contacts and she's had them for about 3 years

first it is possible for your contact to roll up by the top of your head...if this happens to you then you need someone to have you look down and then they can pull it out!!!

they don't make contacts that you can wear for that long you need to get about 20 packs when you get them because you need to change them every like month.

if you barley need contacts I say not to go through the troble just get glasses contacts are mostly for when you play sports or for when your not responsible to keep glassed undamaged!!!

The last thing you need to know is have somebody remind you every night to take you contacts out because  if you don't you eyes will hurt and you also don't want them to roll back into you head while your sleeping because then you'll think you took them out the night before and then you will put a new pair in and then the one will get stuck by your head and you might have to go back to the eye place to get the contact out ...f the can see it!!!ouch!!!

    my suggestion ....

    get glasses!!!!

you only look stupid for a little then people find a new person to make fun of!!!

I'm even getting glasses so don't worry!!!
