i hear them complain and whine about how hard a course plays, or how difficult it is. I wish they would just find it a challenge especially since it's all part of the competition. right?

  1. I dont think they are complaining but more just making comment. I watched inside the European PGA the other night and no one was complaining. They each commented on the toughness of the layout and the condition the course will be as it drys out. What they do collectively is acknowledge the way the course is set up for the tournament for that week and reflect on the nicknames of some of the courses. The monster for the PGA is apparently succinct to the layout of Oakland Hills.

I caddy for my son in some of the biggest amatuer events in NZ and I can tell you that what I hear from some of the amatuers re the courses they play for tournaments would be frowned upon by the majority of the professional fraternity.

  2. Yeah it does get a bit annoying after a while.  They just have to realize that all the other competitors are in the same boat, that there is no advantage for anyone.

We golfers like to complain a little when we are playing bad =]

  3. Everyone is allowed their own opinion about a golf course. I'm sure if you were a professional golfer you would have something to say about the golf course after the day of play.

    Have a good one...

  4. The thing with it is if the course is very difficult as is the "Monster" that is being played at the PGA championship right now, it results in lower scores, which means less interesting rounds. I personally enjoy watching pros shoot five, six, or even eight under par as it is much more enjoyable than watching a round of even top the leader board.

  5. Yeah it can get annoying.  But I think they are saying it more as a comment, and as a way to let viewers know the difficulties they face on the course instead of whining.

  6. You have a right to tell these bozos off !  The reason they are professionals is their talent and the course is going to play tough for everyone. If they have to work shots both ways or use long irons more often than they are accustomed or putt on fast undulating greens that is why they are pros. Hale Irwin won the open with 6 over. He didn't whine.

  7. They do find it a challenge, and sure maybe they do complain.. but have you seen the courses they play major championships on! I'm not sure if you've ever golfed before.. but i play and i fully understand how hard the game really is! It is a very hard precise game where you have to battle the course. Maybe you should go out and try to play Augusta or Winged Foot and see if you are capable of shooting anywhere near even par! I think what you are saying is ridiculous! Yes sure it is a competition.. but there is a fine line between challenging and unfair..

Picture a 600 yard dogleg left hole with out of bounds to the left and right with 5 bunkers and a water hazard in front of the green. That is near impossible yet that is what they are faced with!

I do not think they should get over it! I think you should look at it from there point of view before you make a judgment

And yes I do know they complain.. but I'm pretty positive they don't do it to annoy people out there like you. They are just making there voice heard in the attempt to have difficulty lowered on some courses. After all its no fun if it isn't fair!

At least you have the guts to COMPLAIN about golfers complaining!!

  8. Imagine playing pool on a glass table...thats what tour pros have to deal with every time they putt on tour greens.  The PGA and USGA sometimes set up the courses too difficult.  They have every right to complain.

  9. Yeah but you have to realize the courses they play are completely different then the ones we play.  A normal course that an average person plays is about 6700 yards. The minimum yardage they will play is about 7,600 yards nowadays.

I played in a junior tournament 2 days after the Permian basin nationwide tour from the same tees they played and the same course condition and it was horrible.  I usually shoot in the mid to low 70s and i had a tough time breaking 90.

But i do agree with you about the fun of the competion.  I think it's much more fun to watch them struggle and shoot in the 70s. The usopen is my favorite tournament to watch.  They complain because they feel that it only favors long players like tiger woods.  They are just jealous lol

  10. Right.
