  1. I don't

  2. Yeah i'd like 45 grand a year for a 6 hour day, 5 days a week.

  3. so you can see all those suicide victims jump in front of you...nice....

  4. h**l..,I would drive that crazy train any ol'time.

  5. Hiya Bill! Hahaha great question AGAIN - youre on form today :o) Well I wouldn't mind being a tube driver actually - but I am rubbish at driving anything as my concentration wanders all over the place! So given the choice - I think I'd like to be the lady who goes "Mind the Gap.....Steer Clear of the Doors.." instead! xx So to sum up - yes I'd like to be a tube train driver - but my passengers wouldn't thank me for it!! xx

  6. No, because I already am one! David S has hit the nail on the head, there's not too much to add to that other than that there is far more to the job than meets the eye. And, Turgid Girth, we don't earn 45 grand a year (I wish we did( and we work eight hour days.

  7. These days I'm more likely to hear a modified, very tinny version of that song, coming from a minuscule loudspeaker on a mobile phone.

Turgid Girth: We're not quite at that level yet, but The pay and conditions are OK if you can stand the boredom.

Ruby-Soho: If you fancy it then go for it. London Underground are about to start recruiting drivers externally for the first time in seven years. Don't worry about the concentration thing - it is nothing like driving a car, and the selection tests will determine if you are suitable for the role. There are already lots of women in this and other roles, including management.

David S: For the most part, spot on. I don't worry too much about terrorism. We might have to face that prospect in any area of our lives. I was on late shifts on the 7th and 21st of July 2005, but the closest I have ever come to a bomb was in Manchester (I was a few streets away from Kendall's department store).

  8. At least I would get a seat.

  9. ...and if you work the late shift you can sing..."Down in the Tube station after midnight"

  10. Not really, I always wanted to be a traffic warden, Then I could be a complete b*****d all day long and get paid for it.

Failing that I always thought the idea of working on the antique road show, picture the scene. Some little old lady walks up to the table with her family heirloom. After listening to hear at length explaining the history of the item, I would take great pleasure is telling her that it was worth nothing.

    Ja.

  11. Apart from the extremely high salary - No. The job must be both boring and stressful. Boring because all you see for the most part for 8 hours a day is the black of the tunnel and the signal lights, and maintaining concentration must be difficult.

Stressful because you are in sole charge (there are no guards on tube trains) of a train carrying up to 1200 people

with the added fear of terrorism. It would be interesting to hear from actual tube drivers; my answer can only be speculative.

  12. No.  I don't have tunnel vision.

  13. Yeah! especially all those dead corpses on the lines buddy!.....

  14. Very good I'll give you a star for that.
