Do you work in a restaurant?

If you work on the pantry, what does that job consist of? I never knew what the pantry job consists of because i always was the "cook" I quit my job and am applying at a nice place for the pantry position. what can I expect to be doing? Thanx a bunch!!

Pantry is usually used to refer to cold production.  Salads, Sandwiches etc... Several hotels I have worked in used this term for cold production.

Pantry work:

Salads, any variety of cold sandwiches,

Appetizers - shrimp cocktails, crab meat cocktails,

Main course/Entrees: Cold seafood combos, Chef salads, etc.

Desserts - assorted cakes, and ice cream specialties

and ALL the prep work related to that station: Making cole slaw, potato salad, Jell-o, getting the lettuce and various greens and ingredients for the salads ready for lunch and dinner.

Pickling eggs, carrot sticks and cukes [I did it].

yes i do  

pantry is usually cold kitchen as in salads and cold apps   that is were anyone one with little or no experience would start and also a good spot for them to check you out  as in how do you handle yourself

Cooking was the hobby for me first. But I need a job 2 years ago, finished course for 6 months and start cooking in restaurant. I made myself such difficult (for me) desserts . Most of time i only prepare salad's ingredients, of course. But I was one and only cook in small restaurant. I was happy that people like my dishes!

most of the time it is salad area and prep bread  its not as hard  as it sounds it fast pace

Personally no, but I come from a long line of chefs.  Usually, the "pantry" position consists of tracking pantry, fridge, grocery items.....  Sounds like you may have been hired as a pantry stocker but ended up as a line cook.
