  1. I don't worship capitalism, nor do I worship the environment. I believe in a balance between all issues.

We all want a clean, natural environment, but we all also want modern conveniences. I believe we can have a sufficient quantity of both.

  2. Pure capitalism does not exist.  Capitalism is brutally harsh on the masses which explains the existence of social programs.

However, Capitalism creates competition which then creates improvements in all things.

An obvious downside is that capitalism creates monopolies who will do everything they can to fight against change and/or competition.

Then, with money comes power & influence...influence is also another word for corruption.  Go figure.

  3. It's the LOVE of money, NOT money that is the root of all evil.  Your question is invalid.

  4. Money is not the problem. The problem is the fact that we give the environment ZERO economic value, which throws a monkey wrench in the capitalist system. We treat it as something we can take and take from without giving back to- a very NON capitalist thing to do.

If we viewed the environment sort of like another country, to be traded with and to have this trade regulated, then there would be no problem.

Suddenly changing to a socialist, communist, or command economy might fix a few issues and honestly it will create some others, but that really has nothing to do with the environment. Changing the economy won't make people responsible about shutting their lights off, or make them buy electric cars.

Learn some economics, sociology, and environmental science before touting yourself as some prophet of environmental safekeeping. I'd bet the odds are slim that you yourself own a fully electric car, totally minimize and produce your own energy intake (for example, own a windmill and solar panels; bike most places, turn all lights off and use little heat in the winter, etc.), purchase food only from small local farms, and boycott businesses that in any way damage the environment.

Try doing all of those and report back.

  6. I don't have anything against anyone making a living, so I am not against capitalism at all.

However, I'm totally against blind consumerism.  We are led to demand all sorts of trivial products and the associated casual destruction.  Those who get personal value from the size of their car, the number of square feet in the house, or the ounces of gold and jewels at their wrists and throats are going to be searching for the rest of their lives for the next big thing.

Things don't fill my life.  Friendships and family do.  Ideas energize me.  Things gather dust, have to be stored, cleaned, moved, or ultimately be disposed of.  Why spend either my money, my time, or my living space on stuff that doesn't matter any way?

I am not one to "worship" at all,but if I were, it would be living beings and natural spaces, not "stuff."

  7. No.

I hate Capitalism, I love democracy.

Unfortunately most people don't know the difference.

  8. Poor Henry, he started off making VERY valid points regarding capitalism vs. consumerism and then in the last paragraph the wings fell off his airplane; crashed and burned.  Wudda been best answer.

  9. I wonder.  If Capitalism is bad for the environment, why is the environment of countries like China, Viet Nam, Bangladesh, Zaire, Sudan, India so bad when countries that embrace Capitalism like France, Canada, the USA and UK, Switzerland, Germany, the environment is far, far, better?

Is this selecting the "facts" to meet you preconceived notion of what is real?

Or is "global warming" just about the destruction of free markets and individual rights?

  10. Ha. Yeah, he don't know Bella.

I wish somebody would worship my feet.

I'm doing fine and I'll take what I can get, what I need.  It ain't much.

I return with amusement the snide looks of condescension I get from those who think I could do so much better, have so much more.

    Lost are these people, truly.

  11. I'm a firm believer in capitalism. Somehow you are confusing a desire for a booming economy with a hatred for all things natural. They aren't separate irreconcilables issues.

  12. i wish,  i want gold ,i will pray at the feet of a golden calf

if i get to keep the calf.

Should this question not be in religion???

How many believers actually see their god

    How many`s prayers are answered

    just dreams about fantasies .

    An Unreality ,

I  started out not caring about money

and became engrossed with Nature instead.

Now many .many moons later ,

I pray for gold ,to bathe in it or rather  drink it ,

the elixir of life to give me a new body

But it does me no bloody good .

Up to a point  this worship is harmless.

it does not stop me from doing what i do.

And if i had wealth i would do it a hundred times more and bigger.

    However

The Environment represents a lot of money in real terms

,as to what it produces and what it allows.

In the end Ecology and Economics walk hand in hand.

A nations wealth depending on the conditions of its Environment.

And now with man gaining the upper hand ,

the Environment`s survival depends on Mans money to Save it.

So yes you can relate to the Environment

and think about money at the same time

it is just that there are all kinds of ways to make this money,

Too many make it at the Environment`s cost .

but it does not have to be that way

  13. In the history of the US capitalism is responsible for development of 90% of all things that makes our lives better.

A good example is 90% of the worlds of new medicine is developed in the United States.  The governments of the rest of the world can not compete with capitalism no matter how hard they try.

People develope stuff people want and to make money.

Energy costs money, the problem is not with Capitalism.  By and large capitalism just gives you what you want.  Meaning if you want a 400 hp car, capitalism will privide that.  Ending capitalism, you are telling people they can not have what they want.  That reduces freedom.   Capitalism will set the operating price of that car higher and push buyers out of the market at their own free will.  It is alot like people who want to 20% tarrif on Chino or Mexico, then walk into a store and pass by the American item for a 20% savings on a foriegn item.

Look at farming 100 years ago to today.  They really have there stuff together.  They rotate crops etc to protect the investment in the ground.

PS. The soviet union fell.  Socialism does not work.

  14. Capitalism and environmental issues will be the least of our worries if the greedy bankers and war mongers continue to disregard the delicate environmental balance that  allows a capitalistic society to thrive. Best to bow at the alter of Survivalism at this point I think.
