I am giving my two weeks notice at a restaurant. I see the manager of the restaurant less frequently than the owner. Who are you supposed to write your resignation letter to? Does it matter?

  1. It is the manager who pays you; so you should always write your letter to your manager or your Human Resources Manager.  The person at the top should always get your resignation first.

  2. i would give it to my manager but i dont see anything wrong with giving one to the owner too

  3. Write it to your immediate supervisor--your boss. Since you see the owner more often, copy him or her on it.

  4. Write to your immediate boss, whoever he/she is.  It matters.  Write the owner only if you have good reasons to go over the manager's head.

  5. Your manager should get your letter of resignation.

  6. They should have guidelines for that but usually it is the immediate supervisor (manager).  Whoever interviewed and hired you, is in charge of payroll and/or deals with things like who you referred to when you needed time off, that sort of thing.
