I just got my class today (wednesday aug 13th 2008) and I'm trying to get used to them

but I don't want my eyes to get worse because of the glasses where i have to wear them ALL the time (because right now i only erally need to them see far away)

will they be the same even if i wear the glasses? or will they worsen because of the glasses?

Also, I'm only 16 (almost 17) if that matter

  1. Yes, eyes become very dependent upon artificial corrections(glasses, contacts, lasik). Ask anyone who has worn artificial corrections for 5+ years. Most will tell you that their prescriptions got worse year after year and that they can't see anything without them.

Artificial corrections do not directly cause blurry vision, but they strongly encourage the incorrect vision habits. The incorrect vision habits of staring, diffusing, straining, and squinting, squeeze our eyes out of shape and give us blurry vision. Artificial corrections do not take away strain, they only change it into a less painful form. The incorrect vision habits are not permanent though, we can unlearn them.

People can reduce the harm of artificial corrections by not wearing them up close where their vision is clear and when they don't need them. They can also reduce the speed at which their vision gets worse by not getting 20/20 prescriptions. Wearing perfect 20/20 prescriptions often tends to encourage the worsening of vision much faster. We can pass our drivers exam with 20/40 vision or better.

  2. Glasses shouldn't be dependent on your eyes. Sometimes if a person is far sided, their vision gets better throughout time. But if you weren't to wear glasses, that possibility may not become reality. I'm not so sure about near sidedness. Their is so much us humans don't know about the eye ball.

  3. Glasses (and contacts) just focus light into your eye differently so that you can see clearly.  They do not change the size or shape of your eye and thus do not change your actual eyesight.

Nearsightedness, unfortunately, progresses through the teens (regardless of whether you wear glasses or not).  It should stabilize in your twenties, though.  Since you are only 17, hopefully they won't get too much worse.  Just wear your glasses when you need to and make sure to keep getting checkups.

  4. Your eyes do not worsen because of glasses.  That is an old wives tale.  Look at it this way.  If glasses give you bad vision, how did you get bad vision when you didn't have glasses?

  5. I wouldn't recommend you wearing glasses all the time especially if you ONLY need them to see far- using them for near work causes more eyestrain and this makes your eyesight worse and more dependet on glasses. If you are able to do near work comfortably without them then DON'T use them when you are reading etc.

I'm 19 (nearly 20) and only use my glasses when I want to see distance and my prescription (-2.00) hasn't increased or changed at all since my last eye exam.

    Hope this helps!

  6. Wearing glasses will HELP your eyes from NOT getting worse as quickly.  Personally, I have become dependent on my glasses because I didn't realize how bad my sight was till I started wearing them.  I have the same problem as you, I am nearsighted so I need my glasses to be able to read anything farther than 5-10ft away from me.

Keep wearing them, they will keep your eyes healthy longer!  If you are worried about how you look, find a set of frames that are really cool and rock them! :)  If you REALLY hate wearing them, look into getting contacts!

    Hope that helps! :)

  7. its your eyes not your glasses. if you dont wear your glasses they will get worse and will get headaches from squinting.

  8. No, actually your eyes will get better once you wear the glasses all the time.

  9. I know somebody who started wearing glasses in school and has never been able to go without them.

    Hooked for life.
