  1. Sometimes I do, but only if it's for extra credit.  If a teacher does that for "real" that's not really fair (unless it's like a philosophy class or something)


  2. Maybe the teacher is asking an open-ended thought provoking question designed to assist students in learning to think more deeply about the topic.

    Maybe the trick is to not give up on a quest (aka: question)

    (Yeah, I'm a teacher....I try to empower my students by teaching them how to think for themselves.)

  3. Trick questions seem unfair at the time, but they are asked to get you to think hard about something.

I had a teacher who always stressed to read over the test before starting to make sure you knew where you were headed during the test.  On one test, the last question said, "Make sure your name is on the paper.  Now act like you're working on this test for 30 minutes to fool those who didn't read the test first.  Blank tests will receive an A."  Annoying!

  5. Mine don't. It would be fun sometimes, though, to have to think laterally for once.
