Doc Rivers concerned about Rajon Rondo’s extended minutes – NBA Update
Rajon Rondo is the new face of Boston Celtics.
He is the one for the future and the man who is being seen as the leader of the team that made some impressive additions during the off season. These changes however have resulted in chemistry related uncertainties and in such
times, it is only natural for the coach Doc Rivers to bank on his time tested players, more than he needs to.
The same has been the case with Rondo, but the good part is that Doc has realized that pretty early.
“I’m concerned, not as far as him getting tired,” Rivers said. “But him to save himself on the floor.”
“There’s a minutes number for him,” Rivers said. “We don’t know what it is yet.”
“We’ll figure it out, where he can play his minutes at full pace instead of knowing he’s going to be on the floor too long and start pacing himself,” Rivers said. “We need him to be a fast, quick, aggressive player.”
The Greens have not got off an ideal start to the season and are presently 1-2. The problem is that despite the inclusion of some big names like Jason Terry and Courtney Lee to the lineup, the bench is just not firing and that
has left a lot of burden on the starters like Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jeff Green, and not to forget Rondo.
The chemistry seems to be missing at the moment and the new players are still trying to adjust to the system. Then there is also the issue of playing the right combination. Unlike the last one, Rivers is spoiled for choice at almost
every position this season. He got Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox back this summer, received two good draftees in the form of Fab Melo and Jared Sullinger, and has also got Leandro Barbosa to boost the back court.
The only remaining problem is to create a team philosophy in which all the pieces can function properly, and give the superstars some rest before it gets down to the business end of the season;
“I’m not that concerned with rotations and all that stuff,” River added. “Only five guys are going to play at one time. Kevin’s going to do the same rotation and there’ll be a big that’ll take his spot. It’s not that difficult.
The more important thing is finding the right group.”
