Celtics head coach plans of using Jason Terry as a combo guard next season; Lee to add depth to bench when Bradley returns to the line-up.....
The Boston Celtics have made some great roster additions in the offseason to remain as one of the top contenders for the Eastern Conference crown.
Boston lost shooting guard and original member of the “big three”, Ray Allen, to the Miami Heat in free agency earlier this summer, even though the Celtics were willing to pay Allen twice what Miami was offering. In place of Allen,
the Celtics got two great shooting guards, Courtney Lee and Jason Terry. In addition to that, the C's were impressed with Avery Bradley last season when he started for them, and developed a good back court combo with Rajon Rondo.
However, Bradley had to undergo shoulder surgery during the summer and will not be available for the team when the season opens in end of October. That has left a big question for Celtics head coach Doc Rivers to answer - who is
going to start at the two position?
Rivers recently talked to Bob Ryan at the ABCD camp, and spoke about the various issues the Celtics have had over the past two seasons.
But with Bradley out of the line-up for the start of the season, Rivers said that he would start Courtney Lee at the two position, and keep Jason Terry in his traditional role of 6th man.
Terry would give a great boost to the Celtics second unit, while at the same time could also be used as a back up to Celtics starting guard Rajon Rondo. And when Bradley return to the roster to take his starting position, Lee would
move back to the bench where the Celtics could use his shooting and length, something missing from the back up squad over the past few seasons.
The Celtics seem to have all the pieces together to make them genuine contenders for the Eastern Conference crown next season. They lost to the Miami Heat in 7 games last season in the Eastern Conference Finals, and will be hoping
to go one better this time around.
