Doc Rivers son Austin Rivers preparing to enter in the NBA Draft - NBA Update
After a disappointing end to the collegiate season, prodigious young basketball player and son of the Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, Austin Rivers has decided to bid farewell to the Duke Blue Devils, and is now headed for the
NBA draft.
Austin revealed on Monday that he is looking forward to hire an agent. The decision was taken after he spent the weekend discussing the future with his family members at Orlando.
"Duke has prepared me for the challenges that are ahead both on and off the court," Rivers said in a statement issued by the school. "I have learned so much from the coaching staff and my teammates that will help me succeed at
the next level."
Rivers now becomes the 4th player under the stewardship of Coach Mike Krzyzewski to play a season for the Blue Devils before leaving for bigger stage, the other three being Luol Deng, Kyrie Irving and Corey Maggette.
The freshman guard is expected to be the 1st round pick in the draft. Rivers has been displaying a great show lately. He averaged a team high 15.5 points per game and was nominated as the Atlantic Coast conference’s
rookie of the year.
Coach K wished the younger Rivers the best for his NBA career.
"Austin had a terrific year as a freshman and has put himself in a position to pursue his dream of being a great player in the NBA, we look forward to watching him continue to develop and excel at the next level."
Doc Rivers, when asked about the important milestone in his son’s career, sounded politic;
"At the end of the day, all you can do with all your kids, or any kid in this situation, is give them as much input as you can, then you try to let them make the decision”. Doc Rivers, when asked about if he will guide his son.
Austin, 19, has been the force behind Winter Park High School consecutive Florida 6A state championships in 2010 and 2011. He went on to play for Nike Hoop Summit for the USA National Team in 2011. His skills were noticed and admired
as a result he participated in the 2011 McDonalds All-American Game. His journey was brief but triumphed with Duke University that started on 30th September 2010 and came to end after a season.
He was decorated with many esteemed awards such as the 2010 FIBA America U18 Champion, 2010 FIBA America U18 MVP and 2011 Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award.
