I am confused and when the lady at LensCrafters called to verify if that was correct he got mad at her and us.

If I am far sided, why would I need to wear glasses for distance? He also said to wear them all the time. Any help would be great.

  1. what is the problem in that

if you are farsightedness you must to wear glasses for distance

but if you are nearsightedness you need to wear glasses for near vision

  2. My father is far sided and he does not wear glasses all the time. Being far sided means you can't see stuff that's up close. That generally means you need glasses ONLY for reading. So if you are far sided, you will NOT need glasses for distance.

I'm near sided, I have to wear glasses for distance, all the time. I can't see stuff clearly that's further away from me.

Then again, everyone's eyes are different. You may want to get a second opinion from another eye doctor BEFORE you get your glasses. You don't want to end up s******g up your eye vision from getting a wrong prescription from a bad doctor.

I hope my answer made sense and I hope I helped you out. I wish you good luck to whatever decision you make.

  3. The correct term is farsightedness, or hyperopia.  You are farsighted. You have the inability to focus on things close up and you are able to focus on objects at a distance.  So your prescription should be for focusing on distance.  The prescription would be a positive number.

If you are nearsighted, myopia, you will have the inability to focus on objects at a distance.  Such as the inability to see the board from the back of the class room. The prescription would be a negative number.

The tech at Lenscrafter should have been able to verify the prescription by using a test lens type.  For example if your prescription stated -3.0, and the tech had you look through a -3.0 lens, you would have said it was blurry. If it was +3.0, you would have said I can see clearly.  That is if you are farsighted. It would have proved whether the doctor wrote the prescription right or wrong.  Doctors never want to admit they make mistake and get furious if someone else find their mistakes.

  4. The term farsighted has caused much confusion because it leads many to believe that since they are farsighted they can't benefit from a prescription for distance.  Farsighted actually means that the patient may be able to see more clearly at distance than near, BUT the patient who is farsighted must focus their eyes excessively in order to see at distance.  This excessive focusing demand can lead to symptoms such as visual fatigue.  So just because you are farsighted doesn't mean that you can't benefit from a farsighted correction.

Mya1500 is not correct.  Farsighted does not mean that you have an inability to focus on near.  That condition is called presbyopia and it is age related.  You see how confusing this is to most?  A farsighted person may very well be able to focus at near but they would have to exert even more focusing effort at near than they do at far.
