  1. yea they still do it, yes they will be it is standard

    for some breeds.

To me i dont see a problem with it, as long as it is done at the right age, and by a professional. same for ear cropping. done at the right age the pup heals in no time. ive had boxers and Dobes with both ears and tail done, and all my Pit Bulls have their ears cropped i have never had a problem from it with none of my dogs.

tail docking and ear cropping is illegal in all Australia...but it is still being done, it doesnt matter if its illegal if people want it done they will do it regardless, just the same if they were to make illegal in the US you would still see docked tails and cropped ears all the time.

April 1, 2004 is when it became officially illegal

  2. For some breeds, I believe they still do. I hope it doesn't continue.

  3. Yes, and yes.

I don't see this going away any time soon in the US.

People just can't warm up to the idea of a Rottweiler having a tail for some reason...among other breeds.

  4. I knew that ear cropping has long been outlawed in Australia and you will never see a dog with cropped ears.  I didn't realise that tail docking has now also been made illegal but I have just read that as of 1 April, 2004 it "is no longer legally acceptable in Australia to dock dogs’ or pups’ tails except for medical purposes".

Also "Cosmetic tail docking has also been banned in a number of countries including Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Finland, Germany and Denmark. Several other European countries including Cyprus, Greece, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Austria have also ratified a European Convention that prohibits the cosmetic docking of tails. In the United Kingdom tail docking can only be carried out by a registered veterinary surgeon. The practice is opposed by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons which describes it as an 'unacceptable mutilation'.

Good one Australia and congratulations to the RSPCA for successfully lobbying and having it made an illegal practice.  A huge step forward in canine welfare.  I am proud to be an Aussie.

  5. I dont have an issue with it if it is done properly at the right age. Some breeds have horrific tails (I own a rottweiler with a tail) and it really is a long bony thing with no muscle on it. He hurts it occasionally just wagging it, so much better if it was gone at a reasonable length. People need to see both sides of the coin.

Dew claws as well, now the laws came in to Australia people are scared to do them as well. They are huge floppy pieces of skin that bleed continuously when snagged and it is a bigger operation when the dog is older.

  6. In parts of Europe this is illegal, but I think that's stupid. Tail docking is not the evil, barbaric practice opponents would have you believe. It's done when the puppies are about 3 days old, before the nerves in the tail are fully formed. A band is tied around the tail until the lack of bloodflow makes it fall off. This isn't painful for the puppy. Some breeds of dog have very weak tails that can be easily injured, which would be much more traumatic and painful than the docking process. Also, working dogs are usually docked to prevent injury. It's nice that people care about dogs' welfare, but tail docking is completely harmless and even beneficial.

  7. Docking is now illegal in Australia, no reputable breeders will still dock tails.

In Australia we've never accepted ear docking, although some people may do it it's never been legal or accepted.

  8. Do you know that docking a dog's tail is cutting off part of its spine? I think the preference for docked tails has to be cultural. People are so used to seeing dogs like this that they often don't know that the animals aren't that way naturally.

  9. If you have ever been beat by an excited Boxers full length tail, yes as a breeder, I will continue to do so!
