Photocopy your passport and have it notarized to be a legal document. Then send the notarized document to your friend so that he could use it in applying for a visa to UK.

Do you need to send an official copy of your passport so your friend can come visit you?  Call the government office that takes care of passports and visas and ask them what to do. You might need to have a photocopy of your passport information page stamped and signed by a notary public, or other official person.
