Whose doctor told them that quiting cold turkey can be harmful during pregnancy? I don't judge, I was a smoker before I was pregnant (and to tell the truth I can't wait to have a cig after the baby is here, I admit it) I quit smoking for now but I wonder about these docs that think quiting would do more harm? That's a little wierd to me. Any opinions?

  1. My Dr. told me to cut back, instead of quitting. He said quitting could put stress on me and harm the baby. Three pregnancies and 3 babies later, I have 3 healthy children. All because of the Dr's suggestion.

  2. nah.. they say quitting anytime before the 32 week can have positives health benefits for baby.. i heard it could make them go through withdrawls or w/e.. but i dont think so...

  3. Some people believe that the stress of quitting can cause miscarriage/bad effects to the fetus.  It hasn't been proven though.

  4. I quit smoking the day I found out I was pregnant.  I don't think the baby knows one way or the other at this early in pregnancy, it wasn't hard, I cared more about my baby then cravings.  The first two days I chewed a lot of gum, but after that everything was fine!

  5. When my cousin was pregnant with her first baby her first and second doctors told her not to quit cold turkey it could serverly harm the baby. She completely freaked out and didn't quit. When she moved and therefore had to change doctors, the new one advised her it would be the best thing for everyone involved if she quit right away. By that time she was already 5 months along, and had been so scared by the first team, she didn't quit. The baby was born healthy and has had no problems to date (he is now 6). When she was pregnant with the second baby the new doctor advised her to quit slowly. She then used the patch and smoked occasionally. I think it's up to you to quit, or not. I try not to judge because I am not a smoker, but I think you should at least make an honest effort to quit for the baby. I never agree with scare tactics though.

  6. This is because they believe that the baby not just you, go through withdrawls!. And that stresses the baby out as it does with you I am guessing.
