Dear Sir / Madam,

my cousin is 16 years old and a patient of Hypothyroidism since 2002. In starting, she was taking 25mcg Thyronom medicine. which after 1 year was increased with 50mcg followed by 75mcg later. Now recently she has done her TSH test and the report shows a result of 1.158 ulL/ml. Normal range should be 2 - 4 as per the report. her old doctor (1.5 years back) was telling that she may have to increase the medicine to 100mcg soon. but now, her new doctor says that she should reduce her dosage to 50mcg. should she reduce her dosage to 50mcg. can it be possible that in 1.5 years, her TSH has gone down which was high earlier. or the TSH report has got some fault. i am having my own doubt. whether she should increase the dosage or reduce the dosage? can any doctor help me out? i shall be highly obliged. Thanks in advance!!!

  1. Who is the doctor, he knows what he is doing.  That's

his job........What are you so worried about when

your cousin is in excellent care.

  2. In hypothyroidism the TSH can be up or down depending on where the problem is....either thyroid dysfunction or pituitary gland dysfunction. In this case her T3 T4 levels would be a better indicator if she should change her meds.....she should see an endocrinologist not just a general practitioner if she's getting conflicting info. Also - symptoms will indicate if they should change med. SO...I can't tell you either way - but she should see and endocrinologist. You should never take anyone's advice about medication unless it's a doctor that has your medical history...good luck! I have hypothyroid too and it's no fun ;)

  3. Now just remember the difference between hypo and hyper.  Hypo means low, and hyper means high.  So it sounds to me it should be increased.  Think about it, because I'm not a dr.  I just know the difference between hypo and hyper.
