Question:

Doctor/Nurse's Help - MiniPill??

I was prescribed noriday by doctor this morning - she wasnt very helpful at all and gave me no imformation about it other than to read the leaflet. On reading the leaflet it says not to take if you have had amenorrhea which I did due to depo and implanon - will it still be ok to take? I dont see the point in going back to the doctor as she was so unhelpful this morning.

Thanks in advance

  1. Amenorrhea is normal when using progesterone only contraception, so it is not relevant to this data sheet entry. Noriday is not really  the best progesterone only pill, the newer drug Cerazette has the advantage of a 12 hour efficacy window, equal to that of the combined pill, and is generally taking over as most GP's first choice.

All prescribers have a duty to explain how you should take the medication, the risks and benefits and the potential common side effects. Yours should not have simply prescribed and to be honest if it happens again you should not leave the surgery until you have had adequate explanation!

  2. Hi I am sorry she was so unhelpful, next time, i recommend the specific womens  clinic or the family planning one where they are all very nice and welcoming and treat you nicely.

take the pill every day at same time and no breaks in it, it has to be taken within 12 hrs of forgetting it. I am sure. It is progestogen only.

However, it is YOUR body and if you feel its not for you , you can have mirena coil inserted or  a number of other non oral pill options , a FPA clinic would be your best bet or read up the info on netdoctor website under 'medicines'.

Trial and error often it is with any new pill you are given.Good  luck.
