The doctor who operated on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 said the striker could have lost his leg and was very fortunate not to have it removed.
The Spanish international sustained a broken leg during the Club World Cup in Tokyo. That injury led to the player missing the entire season last year with Barcelona.

He commented on the kinds of problems these pressure changes can have on this type of injury, revealing that they can lead to severe injuries and as a result of that you can even lose a limb.
"They can lead to severe injuries, or even cause you to lose a limb.”
The doctor also had words of praise for Barcelona coach, Tito Vilanova. He described him as a smart coach and hailed him for giving the striker the necessary time to recover.
"There's been a craftsman who has masterminded the issue; Tito Vilanova, who has been easing him back in. He's been very smart. Villa has [now] overcome his ordeal."
Moreover, the Catalan surgeon believes the 30-year-old is now in a better physical shape than one year ago.
"David Villa is in better shape now than he was in the season before his injury.”
Finally, Dr Cugat also commented on the recovery of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s 3-2 victory against Spartak Moscow, almost two months ago in the Champions League.
He revealed the Spanish international is going through very intense rehabilitation program as they want him to come back stronger.
"He has been through very intense treatment, because we wanted to make sure he would be the same old Pique when he makes his comeback.”
Barca are getting ready for Champions League action. On Wednesday they will face the Scottish Champions, Celtic.
