Doctor and gripe water?

Question

I called my doctor to ask him if it was ok for my 4 week old baby girl to take gripe water and he called back saying he's never heard of gripe water. Is gripe water normal or something for him to have never heard of it? He's been a doctor for 30 years and also use to deliver babies so I know he's not inexperienced but just curious if maybe gripe water is something new? Will giving my baby gripe water hurt her or is it safe for her to take?

That is weird. I used it with my son when he had colic. I heard that it was fine to give to babies. I am sure that you would be able to print off the link that I added and you could give a copy to him to look at. The only thing he could say is that he isn't sure.

Maybe give him the info and see what he thinks. If not, it is safe for your baby and parent's have used it for a long time.

Sure I have heard of gripe water, they sell it my grocery store. I have never had to use it but my sister has, and she says it works like a charm. As for your doc, I hate to say it but maybe he is getting a little long in the tooth and not keeping up with times? As for it being safe, I would guess so but I never asked my doc.

That is strange, my ped. recommended it. Its all natural and it says it pediatrician recommended. We used it for my sons colic and it worked great! (Works for gas too)

No it will not hurt your baby maybe it will help. I don't think it is "new" but i'm not positive. Try it.

Doctors tend to be 'in the know' about drugs not herbs. Gripe water should be fine for your baby, follow the directions on the bottle.

Gripe water is great, but it's not the end all solution to much of anything.  We give it to our daughter when she has the hiccups...it helps with that (a little); and I think it's meant more for Colic...which I have a whole 'nother opinion about for a different thread :)

Use it...it tastes good and helps them feel better.
