Doctor taking advantage of old lady?!?

Does this seem outrageous to you? My Great-Great Aunt - who is in her late 80's, bless her heart....is very happy with her doctor and wanted to thank him by giving him money. Well it turns out, she gave him $6000 as a gift and he accepted it! Is it just me, or does that seem extremely unprofessional to you?? Docs make tons of money as it is, to me it was like he was taking advantage of an old lady.

  1. right now i feel like i shoud give the doctor the taste of my iron fist

  2. Talk to the doctor, tell him it was the only money she had left (Lie just a bit) if he doesn't give it back, take it further!

    =]

  3. How is that taking advantage?

It's not like he stole the money from her.

    She's just a generous person.

  4. I think it was sweet of your Great-Great Aunt to want to thank the doctor who is taking such good care of her but I think he shouldn't have accepted the money as he is getting paid already.  He should know that your Great-Great Aunt is probably on a fixed income and can't really afford to give away that much money especially to a non-family member.

What he should have done if he wanted to accept the money was tell her thank you so much but maybe you could donate just a smaller amount to a charity that the doctor is fond of donating money too.  This would have been a more professional way to let your Great-Great Aunt give him a thank you if she really insisted on it.

Bless your Great-Great Aunt she seems like a wonderful woman and I wish her many more years of good health.

  5. Legally there's probably not much that can be done - unless it can be shown there was fraud.

  6. I did nothing to that woman you can not prove it!

she is 80 + what does she need with $6000?

  7. How was he taking advantage of her? He didn't demand it. SOME doctors make a lot of money, but they also have treMENdous expenses- malpractice insurance for one thing.

And reading these responses shows me how many idiots we have at their computers in America- a salary CAP? Do you even know what that means stupid? The dude probably gave your Aunt that much happiness, and to someone else's point, maybe he DID say no! And then she insisted and he took it.

And sue for WHAT, sayde lady you complete dumbass! God d**n, you people are so sloppy with your stupid a$s answers.

  8. oh my god yes defo!1he sure took fir granted but as she gave it as a gift i doubt she will get it bak.u would think he would say oh donate it to charity or something?docs these days are useless

  9. I think that if she insisted on giving it to him, he should have taken it.

It is rude to continuously refuse a gift.

However, if it was a one-time offer, and he quickly accepted, I'd call that unprofessional.

  10. He wasn't taking advantage of her. It was a gift, and you should accept gifts because they're from the heart. If he said "No I don't want it" she'd probably be upset. Just get over it, It was a gift.

  11. Depends on her state of mind.... if shes got such senility that she cant think straight then yah he took advantage.  If not then its a gift.

  12. I would not say taking advantage of an old lady, unless by chance your great great aunt has some problems with the thinking process. She gave that money as a gift, how many people would really turn down that money?

  13. Yes, it does seem unprofessional! As much money as doctors make and he accepts such as large gift from a patient (who is probably already paying him alot for his services) is crazy. It is ashamed but thery are definitely out there. But, what can you do?

  14. Not only is it unethical, it is illegal for any medical professional to accept what in the healthcare field is called "kickbacks" from clients. This doctor absolutely knows this, and has taken advantage of your aunt! I would report him to the medical board. If you need my help, let me know.

  15. Not at all, do you know the cost for liability insurance for doctors? It's outrageous! I'm sure he put it to a good use.

  16. Yes..that is taking advantage of someone.

  17. he probably didnt pocket the money. it probably went as a donation to whatever doctors office or hospital he works in so they can buy equipment and things that they need to take care of patients better,

  18. ... I think when you offer a gift you expect the other person to accept it. its usual that doctors get gifts from patients because it means something to them and the patient...

It was a gift hard he probably didnt know there was 6 grand on there.

  19. i tottally agree with you i mean 6000 thats very unproffesional!

  20. that's unprofessional he makes enought money, but to except 6,000 from an old lad. there is something wrong with him

  21. That's unprofessional, but doctors in this country have horrible horrible salaries so it's not like they don't need the money.  If I were a doctor these days I have to admit I would take the money.

Now if we had universal health care...

  22. That is wrong.

and doctors have a salary cap of 200,000K and that does not mean they all make that a year (FYO)

  23. OMG! WHATS WRONG WITH THAT DOCTOR!!

You should go up 2 him and ask him 4 the money back, if he says no, SUE!!

  24. How does the fact that the doctor makes lots of money, make him undeserving of a gift?  Would it be better if he was poor?  If he was a poor doctor then he probably would not be very good doctor.

How old are you?  A person that has spent over 8 decades on this planet has decided in her best judgment that her doctor was deserving.  Who are you to question such a judgment?

Now she is in her 80's and happy, must mean the doctor is doing something right.  Now in most professions bonuses are given for good performance, how is this different?

You should be thankful your aunt is alive, happy and celebrate her life, let her spend her money, she can not take it with her.

  25. The doctor took advantage, he should not have accepted the money and legally I do not think he really can.  But my god, $6,000!!! That is alot of money.

  26. WOAH!

    yeah!!

    $6000

    thats alot!

I could see if it was some thing like $50

    but yeah

    that just taking advantage.

  27. He should have said, "No Thank You!"

  28. maybe your granmda wanted too give the money, but hes human too, even cops when half of a million dollars is in a bag and all you have too do to get it is not see anything is hard not to fall for tempation, but i alsow blame your grandma as she could of spended the money better, like helping africans

  29. Wow. Very unprofessional. He took a huge advantage of her. God bless her for being so generous, but seriously, he should have accepted it.

  30. well

i dont think its really taking advantage

its not like he forced her

    she asked, he accepted

though, should he have taken it, no way

    6000 is way to much

doctors take taht job because they want to help people

  31. Tell your aunt she's awesome... It'll be allright....
