Doctor vs. nurse practioner?

what are the pros and cons of each? i was under the impression that nurses didn't diagnose, but apparently nurse practioners do.

  1. Nurse Practitioners are Advanced Practice nurses who have a Masters Degree.  They are the parallel to a Physician's Assistant and work under the supervision of a Physician.  The NP can diagnose, treat, and manage Non life-threatening acute and chronic illnesses...like diabetes, or breaking a arm.

    If you are trying to decide which one to be there are alot of pros and cons.   A MD can go to school for 8-12 years, after internships and all that, the NP about 7 or 8.  

    The physician makes a considerable amount more than the NP.  Both are rewarding jobs.
