  1. Well, 2 of the big pros of being a NP as opposed to an MD are:

    1. less debt

    2. less time in school

Both NPs and PAs function as mid level medical practitioners (masters levels).  They see patients, make diagnoses, order tests, Xrays, etc , interpret results, do procedures (that depends on their area of expertise), write Rxs etc.  However they are not completely just like doctors--they generally do not do all the things a MD does, or deal at some of the higher complexities of the doc. The doc also shoulders the ultimate liability & responsibility in a legal situation. However, it still is a very rewarding career.  I like the fact that there is a doc there behind me as a reference and back-up.  Its a "free consult!" I also love procedures, which is why I sent into the ER.

So the PRO of a  MD is you are at the top of the heap & you make the bigger bucks and have the greater abilities & opportunities but you also have the larger responsibilities and the greater stress.

  2. The N P may be able to spend more time with you.
