Hi, I've been intubated (8 days, due to a SEVERE asthma attack). I've just started to get my voice back (I was on life support for 8 days, I've been off life support for nearly 3 weeks [in 2 days]), I have been very worried about my voice not coming back! I've got most of it back, but it's not very loud, it is back but not very loud. I can't laugh either, I laugh but no noise comes out. Just wondering if this happened to anyone else?

  1. I am not a doctor, nor have I been intubated, but I do know that the tube would be going through your pharynx and larynx which would abduct your vocal folds. Your vocal folds being abducted for several days could cause atrophy, swelling, etc. which would cause you to lose your voice for a while. I would treat it like laryngitis and try to keep your throat moistened and reduce your talking so your vocal folds can repair themselves! good luck!
