Doctors are hopeful over Mark Boucher’s ‘reasonable recovery’ - Cricket News Update
Mark Boucher’s doctors have shown optimism that the former Proteas veteran could recover most of the vision in his left eye after he suffered a horrific career ending injury during a side match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 two weeks ago.
The surgeons treating the former South African wicket-keeper have kept the player strictly house bound in order not to cause any undue risk with his ongoing treatment.
“Due to the severity of the injury, as well as the pain related to the recent lengthy surgical procedure, Mark has been strictly house-bound.”
Boucher’s international career came to an untimely end when he was struck by a bail in his left eye off teammate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir that tore his retina on the opening day of their first tour match at Taunton on July 9.
The Proteas star underwent an emergency operation in London before he flew home for further treatment. A statement issued on behalf of the Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 (CSA) stated that the team of doctors treating the player is cautiously optimistic over his progress.
“While it is impossible to predict the long-term outcome of Mark's eye injury, his medical team are nevertheless cautiously optimistic that he will have a reasonable recovery of the vision in his left eye,” Boucher’s GP, Dr Peter Sandell, read the statement.
“Mark is currently in the recuperation stage after recent surgery to his left eye,” Dr Sandell further added.
The 35-year-old made his international debut for South Africa against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692 and played in 147 Tests, 295 ODIs and 25 T20Is.
Boucher is the most successful wicket-keeper in the history of the game, and claimed a world-record 999 international dismissals, while scoring 10469 runs, and also holds the world record for most catches by a wicket-keeper.
Following surgery in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749, the South African underwent a major 3-hour surgical treatment in Cape Town last week to remove the accumulated blood in his eye.
“Over the next three to six months, Mark will undergo further surgery procedures in an attempt to improve his vision,” the statement concluded.
