1. An insulin-dependent diabetic is placed on a continuous insulin drip during active labor. Her blood sugar (BS) will be checked qh and her insulin rate adjusted using a sliding scale. Add 25 u Regular Humulin insulin to a 250 ml. bag of NS What do you set the pump at for a BS of 123?

Formula: 25 u Reg. = 1 u Reg. 1 u Reg. X 10 ml. = 10 ml.

250 ml. NS 10 ml. NS and 1 hr. 1 u Reg. 1 hr.

Sliding scale: BS (blood sugar) Units of Insulin/ hour

100-110 1

111-120 2

121-130 3

131-140 4

141-150 5

151-160 6

For a blood sugar of 156?
