i am traveling to mexico what documentation do i need in order to cross the border from tijuana

  1. Just read the following four links (provided in the sources below)and you will have your answer.

    It is sometime DURING the summer of 2008, not AFTER, that you will need a passport.  By air, you need one now.  By Jan. 31, 2008, a driver's license and a birth certificate will do.  Before that, supposedly just a government issued I.D.(such as your drivers license) is all that will be required.

    In the first link provided, under the section where it says "ABOUT WHTI", it says that there will be greater flexibility when it comes to children.

    There is a possibility that Congress is pushing the date for these requirements up to June of 2009.  Read the second link for the info on that.  Also read the last link in regards to the Leahy-Stevens Amendment (the fourth link).


  2. Gov't issued photo I.d. and certified birth certificate.   passports are not needed for LAND travel to and from Mexico until after SUMMER 2008.  See website below and read top half of the page carefully for current info.
