Looking urgently for help. I am traveling in 2 days to Brazil, and as a swiss citizien living with a student visa in USA (J1 visa) I do not need a entry visa for Brazil-this I know. However I will have an appointment with the American Embassy in Rio to renew my US-visa (in order to re-enter in US) and I will have to leave my passport there in Rio for 3-5 days for the visa processing. I planned to fly in the meantime to a beach resort 1200km north by plane to wait for my visa. Question: can I travel by plane within Brazil without passport but with a photo ID? Or if passport is required, is there another way that I can realize my plans? The flight and hotel in brazil was booked by a brazilian travel agency, who just tells me don't worry you will see whether you will need your passport. Thanks for your help with that!

  1. Ideally a passport, but the Swiss and Brazilian govs have a reciprocity in terms of drivers license, so a valid SWISS driver´s license would be enough.

Not an American one, US drivers licenses are not valid in Brazil.

I would call the Swiss consulate in Rio to make sure:

    call from the US: 001155 21 2221 1867

Rio de Janeiro - RJ - Consulado Geral da Suíça Rua Cândido Mendes, 157 - 11o andar CEP 20241-220 - Rio de Janeiro - RJ tel. (0xx21) 2221-1867 ...
