Dodger stadium security: too little, too late? – Part 2
The police are more worried about the Giants fans this time around. Basic human reactions to such an incident point towards the fact that there is a fair chance of the Giants seeking retribution for Bryan Stow’s beating in the same way. For those people
Jorge Costa said, "Don't show up. There's no room for people like that here. Period."
The owner of the Dodgers, Frank McCourt announced that the team would be playing in the presence of a doubled security police force at the tainted Dodger Stadium when they have their home game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Dodgers and McCourt has been the target of intense public and media scrutiny after the incidents that took place at Dodger stadium. They have been targeted for their lethargic public response and that the conditions in the stadium have deteriorated at
quite an astonishing rate in the past few years. McCourt upon knowing that the citizens of the community are very uncomfortable with the behaviour of many at the stadium said, "I hear you loudly, and I hear you clearly."
It was announced in the starting of the week that the Los Angeles Dodgers had hired a former Los Angeles police chief, William Bratton and his security firm to do an extensive analysis of the existing security arrangements. Bratton will have to develop solutions
that will be applicable in the long term to help improve the conditions at the stadium. Dodger stadium is the second-oldest park in the National League and it is a shame to see what it has become of it now.
Los Angeles’ current police chief Charlie Beck and Los Angeles’ Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said that a zero tolerance policy would be put under action. Any fan that will choose to do misconduct at the game will have to face the consequences without any pardon.
Beck had planned it so that every fan that enters the stadium will have to meet a Los Angeles police officer. Upon leaving the stadium, each and every fan would once again have to go through a Los Angeles police officer again. Beck said, "We will be a constant
presence."
Previous arrangements at Dodgers stadium saw a combination of private security guards and off duty police officers. The off duty officers were in civilian clothing and did not carry any ammunition or guns with them.
Given the circumstances now, the off duty officers will be in uniform as well and will have permission to carry a weapon.
At the end of the day, we have to wonder, why is it always too late with everything? Why does it take a guy to have his life ruined to implement these security measures? Isn’t it a case of too little too late this time?
