Dodgers fans, what comes to mind when you see these names?

Peanut Brittle Garciaparra.

No show Jason Schmidt/Esteban Loaiza

Flail away Mark Sweeney/Andruw Jones

When I lived in Nevada, my neighbor had a dog named Useless. He told me the name is the exact opposite of how the dog performed what's expected of him. Forgive me for being so impatient, frustrated and rude, but I can't help it. I'm an avid Dodgers fan. Any thoughts?

  1. I feel your pain. I'm not a Dodger fan, but I live in the L.A. area and it's always a shame to see a team that wants to spend and get better, only to spend it poorly or have it not work out. I don't think Colletti has any more of these moves left in him.

At least you've got some good bargaining chips in your system and you know that the McCourts will spend. The ship can be righted, and the NL West is really weak. If no one steps up over the next couple years it is a division that is ripe for domination, and the Dodgers have what it takes to take on that role. They just need to start making much better decisions at the top.

Particularly the Schmidt and Jones contracts are two of the worst sports contracts in a very long time.

  2. How weak the Dodgers are is what comes to my head when I heard that. I never heard of these nicknames before this.

  3. ryan braun comes to mind, ya know why? because i dont like him. why? because he  sucks.

  4. The NL West is the read headed step child of the MLB, similar to the Eastern Conference in the NBA. Andruw Jones should have stayed in Atlanta, seriously he's hitting .169! Maybe the worse free agent signing of the year. What about Brad Pennys 5-9 record and 5.88 ERA? Also hurting the team. This team looked very good on paper at the beginning of the year, but I guess thats why they play the season out.

  5. The NL isn't the worst in baseball.  It is the MOST EVENLY matched division.  More years than not provided the wildcard team for the playoffs.

That said, those words to me mean MISTAKES, but you never know what you are going to get until it gets there.  But it isn't as bad as it seems, they still have a good club with a decent farm system & plenty of teams will still want some of those players. You never know if a change of team is just what a player needs.  Look at what happened to Carlos Quinten.  He sucked when he played for the D-backs, but is doing real well for the White Sox.

  6. The dodgers get unlucky breaks. Theyre best players always get hurt and the people who they spend tons of money on never live up to theyre salary

  7. Look on the bright side. Nomar went down and we saw what Blake DeWitt can do (at least for a little while) Andruw Jones couldn't hit a ball if it was on a tee, but we have Ethier and Kemp. And if we had Schmidt and Loaiza would we see Billingsley pitching? I know how you feel we wasted so much money for bench warmers but we got great talent for cheap.

  8. Why does any of this surprise you?  You signed all of these players knowing their histories.  Nomar has been injured for ever, Scmidt has had an injury history and on the decline of his career, you can thank Dusty Baker for that, and I don't understand why you expect anything from Loaiza?  Many other teams don't.  Mark Sweeny was never a good player, you might be thinking of his brother Mike Sweeney, and Andruw Jones was a terrible signing.

So why are you shocked, or even complaining.  You should be lucky that you are in such a terrible division that it is easy to make it to the playoffs.

    Edit:

I am just saying you cant complain about them.  Look at the positives, your young guys are performing really well.  Martin, Eithier, Kemp, Billingsley, Loney, and Peirre is playing great this year.  And you bullpen is solid stacked with young guys.  If I was a fan of the dodgers, I would be pretty happy with the future.

And Penny has been injured this season, and you are getting him back soon.  He should pitch well.

  9. Ned colleti

  10. my sister big chin lol

  11. The entire NL WEST is named after that dog legitly.....USELESS, or SHOULDNT GET A PLAYOFF SPOT, or ALL TEAMS SUCK, or ALL OF THE ABOVE....get rid of the automatic bid from the West and just let the TOP four records get in already Selig....

  12. Coletti definately has an eye for older injury prone vets, but they will be off the books after next season when all the younger guys will be studs.  Thankfully they are in the NL West which means they can still compete in a down year.  Although the NL West did put 2 teams in the playoffs and 1 in the World Series.
