I used to live in Calif.30 yrs ago. They were talking about putting a underground subway transportation system in. But they were afraid of earthquakes. Did they ever do it?

  1. I know that there are some in San. Fran.

  2. LA has a metro system - but it is nowhere NEAR The scale of new york.  san francisco has an above ground system - but that was there 30 years ago :)

  3. no

  4. No.

  5. Well, California is kind of a big place, you know.  There are underground transportation systems in the San Francisco area:  part of the Muni [SF Municipal Railway] system runs underground, mainly underneath Market Street.  And the BART [Bay Area Rapid Transit] system runs in a wider region: some within the city, and also across (underneath) the Bay over to Berkeley, for example.

  6. Yes. There are two subway systems in California. One in San Francisco: BART (for Bay Area Rapid Transit), and another in Los Angeles known as METRO with several "Lines" known by the colors (Red, Blue, Green, and Gold). There is also an above ground light railway system known as MetroLink in the Southern California Area (Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura, and San Diego Counties).

    Neither system is as complete as the New York subway and railway systems, but as gasoline becomes more expensive, Californians are switching to mass transportation, and leaving their beloved cars at home.

  7. yea it's just that nobody knows about it and noone can find it. By the way, you have to use "an" instead of "a" in front of a word that starts with a vowel.

    And if you didn't know it, vowels are;

    a,e,i,o,u, and sometimes the letter y

  8. California has several cities, hehe.  There is heavy rail underground service at San Francisco area (BART) and in Los Angeles (Red Line), but they are not as extensive as the New York "old" system.  Both are complemented by light rail (tramways/streetcars) at Los Angeles (blue, gold and green lines) and San Francisco (there is a section of tram subway there also).  In San Diego, San José and Sacramento there are streetcar/tramways/light rail (it´s the same) services.  There are commuter train services around Los Angeles (NOT LIGHT RAIL) operated by Metrolink, between San Francisco and San José operated by Caltrans, between Oceanside and San Diego by Coaster, and between Stockton and San José by ACE.

  9. LA has a subway. Not as big as NY, but is;t there. Ever see the movie Volcano with Tommy Lee JOnes. They run into that exact scenario.

  10. Not all of it is underground, but LA does have a subway, as well as several light rail links and bus services.  Collectively they are known as Metro.  As far as I can tell from the Web site, only the Red Line goes underground.
