which can get me in touch with other parents of a child who has Autism?

Either through writing or email?

I feel like i'm the only one where i live.

Try Social Services for an Autism outreach worker. They sometimes organise swimming parties etc which are a great way for kids with special needs(and their parents and siblings) to meet up.  I understand what you feel as I have a son with Autism and I know how isolating it can feel.  You're not alone. Get in touch with the Autism Society of America (ASA) because they have support groups in every state.

it should come up with local autism organizations

try a  website such as autismspeaks.org

www.ivillage.com has a autism message board and there are Yahoo GROUPS concernign autism

on the yahoo home page-look down the list of services (maps, tv, etc) to find the GROUPS link

Call your local school superintendent or the local BOH. They might know of local groups. If not try the community college. They might have a course in it and have the ins to groups etc.
