I'm trying to drop 5-10 pounds.

Aside from that, I'm doing 1 hour cardio a day.

I'm 13. 5'4. 117 pounds.

  1. you really dont need to lose weight.

    im 13, 5' 4" and 115 lbs. im content.

but if you really want to diet, i suggest 1200 - 1500 calories because though it may mean youre consuming more, it also means your metabolism is higher, which means your body overall will burn more calories.

  2. Certainly not.  A) You're too young to go on a weight-loss program unsupervised, B) the one you chose is unsafe and will backfire, C) you don't need to lose any weight, certainly not that much.  Now go pick up the phone and call a friend to gossip about something.

  3. No...you should NEVER go below 1200 calories in a day.  If you weigh 117 pounds you should maintain a normal diet.  Try to stay between 1500 to 1800 a day...you don't need to be watching your calories, you are a perfect weight for your height. :)

  4. Yeh, but becareful you don't overdo it, your still young.

  5. No, it doesn't sound okay. Your body NEEDS 2000 calories per day.

You are in for some bad times if you have as little calories as that. As well, you are more likely to gain weight because your body will feel its in starvation.

Kiddo, to drop 5 or 10 pounds, eat 5 to 6 smaller meals per day. And cut out all junk, fast and fried foods. Also cut out soda and juice and instead drink Crystal Light.

And an hour of cardio a day is not something you need to do. A 30 minute walk or bike ride... or swimming with friends is plenty.

  6. Maybe a bit low.

In order to calculate how many calories you need per day, you need to calculate BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate).  BMR takes into account the variables of weight, height, age and gender.

It is more accurate than calculating calorie needs based on body weight alone.

Based on your given stats, your daily energy needs is approximately 1760 cal. (1.2 x BMR)

  7. There is no need to worry about the amount of calories you consume as about eating the proper foods.  Rotate your foods, and be sure to eat a variety of foods.  Eat meals that consist of a balance of proteins, complex carbohydrates, and some fat.  Proteins can increase your metabolic rate by as much as 30%, and help to balance the release of insulin by prompting secretion of the pancreatic hormone glucagons.  Protein-induced glucagons, mobilizes fats from the tissues in which it is stored, thus aiding in weight loss.  By eating balanced meals you get more steady blood sugar levels and the ability to burn stored body fat for long-term weight loss.  Eat mainly plant proteins, such as nut, seeds, and grains.

Eat fresh fruits and an abundance of raw vegetables.  Have one meal each day that consists entirely of vegetables and fruits.  Use more low calorie vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, green beans, kale, lettuce, onions, radishes, spinach, and turnips.  Eat more of the low calorie, low-carbohydrate fruits including,  apples, cantaloupe, grapefruit, strawberries, and watermelon.

Eat foods raw where possible.  Drink 8 – 10 glasses of water each day.  Also include home made fruit juices and vegetable juices in your diet.  Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables - at least all kinds that you can get your hands on.  Just eat more of the low cal., low carb ones.  And do not forget to take exercise.
