Question:

Does 'Buy Download' from Symantec still send the CD?

I am in a dilemma, my antivirus subscription for Norton has expired; I am set on buying Norton 360 version 2 from Symantec's website and there are two options 1) 'Buy Download' 2) 'Buy Package'.

If I decide to 'Buy Package' the CD will be sent and I will most probably have to wait for the CD to arrive so that I can install it, meanwhile my PC will be vulnerable to viruses/risks etc. But if I 'Buy Download' the download of the 360 package will be available from Norton's site but after I download it and install it will Norton send me the CD so that I have proof that it is my Norton product? Please reply ASAP as I am on tenterhooks waiting to buy!

  1. Not necessarily. When you download a product from Norton you only pay for the download and not for a CD-copy of the download. An email regarding your purchase might be sent to you in acknowledgment of your on-line purchase but that's about it. It also serve as your invoice receipt. On-line downloads are convenient for people who immediately needs the product, thereby affording them instant installation and usage. On the other hand, buying a package from them entitles you to a CD copy of the product and a paper-based receipt surely is included.

If you have a CD writer, maybe you could write the downloaded product into a CD. Yes, it would not be a proof that you bought it but you still have a confirmation email from Norton. So who will bother to ask you for a proof anyway?
