Does 'the rest is history' also mean....?

  1. No, it implies that there is no purpose in explaining further.  It assumes the person knows what happened next.  Mark McGuire hit 70 home runs. the rest is history.


  2. It could I guess, but it usually means that it doesn't need to be explained because whoever the person is who says "the rest is history", realizes that the other person(s), knows what happened from that point on.
