Does 911 do texting?

is there any way you can text 911? for any time you can't call? like if you're with people and they would notice if you call, but is there any way you can text 911?

  2. This is an extremely new technology for 911 centers and there are only a few who are testing with receiving text calls.

    So to be on the safe side the answer is no.  If you need 911 then you will have to speak.

  3. You can talk faster than you can type on those darned buttons.  Screaming into the reciever gets the point across better than a text.  Listening is also faster than reading.

    If you can text but can't make a telephone call to 911, you're pretty much dead in the water.  I think they would notice if you were texting more than if you were whispering into the reciever.

  4. Some departments are accepting text, but you have to text their designated cell phone or web site. Call them (3-1-1) to see if they accept text and the address. In Atlanta you can text to 28453 (CRIME). Some places are playing with 9-1-1 texting, but it not a standard yet.
