Can you be like "Hello I need an ambulance" and hang up and they'd know where you're calling from?

  1. yep. its a reverse lookup. even if you block the caller id, it wont apply to 911. the only reason they usually ask for your phone number is to verify a call back number, should they need it. but they get it. from any house, cell or pay phone.

  2. Yes, They can triangulate calls.

  3. Actually, if you did that, a good dispatcher would call back using the number you called with.

And yes, there are ways to trace calls, but it's a little more complicated than just punching some buttons.  Best they could probably do with such a short call is use the call trace option to find any information attached with the phone number.
