Does A 307 Gear Ratio In A 4x4 Impede Uphill Highway Speed?

My truck goes slow up hills on the highway.

  1. I have 3.07's in my pickup.  I use the stock tires and it has a manual transmission.  Its no speed demon going uphill. but when I easily get 25+ mpg, driving it around hauling stuff  I'm not complaining.


  2. shouldn't. what vehicle and engine are we talking about? on a larger diesel a 3.07 wouldnt be a prob at all. on a 4 cyl small truck with larger tires, it would make a huge difference...you'd be passed by bicycles!!!

  3. either the tires are too big or it needs a tuneup..

  4. As C.M.R. says, it depends on how much torque you have on hand.

  5. Yes, and again does depend upon the engine power, Have that in my Suburban and can see 20 MPG at 55 MPH and 17-18 at 70,,,so kind of a trade off. New six speed transmissions solve the best of both worlds.
