I have a day to myself without bubs. I am breasfeeding ans would like to know what is the best way to express while she is gone to INCREASE my supply. I want to use this time to help as I have never had a great supply but I just can't do much expressing when I am looking after as she is a VERY busy bub.

Any info would be great.

Thanks

  1. your baby makes as much milk as she will need by feeding so dont offer dummies to pacify give her breast ...you dont want to increase unless you want to freeze some as you will over supply and it will be painful and messy because you will have to carry on pumping.....if you do want to freeze then either use a pump electric or hand pump massage ur b*****s very good and lay some warm cloths over them then place the pump on and voila away you go.....if you want to hand express get a large bowl/jug wash well with hot soapy water rinse it well and scald with boiling water to sterilise it...get comfy and do the same massage very well running your knuckles over your breast quite firmly think about your baby try to stimulate let down(even jump in the bath)then gram yor breast thumb at top fingers bottom behind the areola not the nipple and squeeze downwards..repeat untill no more comes out and then switch to the next pocket like thumb on one side fingers on other ect until breast is empty...hope i helped

    good luck and take care

  2. Best way to increase your supply is to nurse!  You can pump while baby is gone, but a pump will not express milk like baby will.

You say you've never had a great supply but you just cant do much expressing while you are looking after her?

Why don't you nurse her, that way you are expressing, and looking after baby at the same time!!

  3. Funny you should ask.  I am in the process of doing just that.  My baby eats more with a sitter, so I need to store milk so that when I return to work I have extra.  I consulted a la leche leader.  SHe advised that I feed as usual and pump both sides after each feeding for an additional 10 minutes.  She also suggested pumping during her naps and at night if I am awake.  It worked!!  I am pumping 2-4 extra ounces a day already and it has been less than a week.  Try that??  Good luck.

  4. A better bet would be to nurse her more.

However you could pump every two hours for 10 minutes, stop for 10 minutes, then pump again for 10 minutes.   Some women find that helps.

  5. hi an express pump would be best ever couple of hrs for 5 min on each side or till they feel empty

  6. the best way to do it would be to pump every 2-3 hours, usually when she would breast feed.  this is what my doctor told me to do when I was away from my daughter, and my supply wasn't that great, but it did get better.
