  1. Higher than red cell?  That shouldn't happen.

Higher than normal means there is an infection stimulating an immune response.  If the WBC are immature it is leukemia.

  2. From what I know,. having my 3 kids at the doctors when they were sick,. a higher white blood count meant they had an infection of some kind and thats the bodies way of trying to fight it off.

  3. It can be be caused by a lot conditions, some more dire than others.  Everything from infections to leukemia can cause elevated white blood cell counts.  You and your doctor can investigate what may be causing your problem.  For most people, it's a sign of a minor bacterial infection that can be easily treated with antibiotics, but since there are more serious causes you should cooperate fully with your doctor.

I wouldn't be too worried just yet, it's probably something temporary and manageable.

  4. The short answer is that this may signify an underlying problem that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible (ASAP):

**A high white blood cell count (leukocytosis) isn't a specific disease**

White blood cells (leukocytes) help fight infections in your body. A normal white blood cell count is between 4,500 and 10,000 cells per microliter. Causes of a high white blood cell count include:

    -Infections

-Use of certain medications, such as corticosteroids, antibiotics or anti-seizure drugs  -- are you taking any of these?

-Severe physical or emotional stress -- anything in your life troubling you lately?

-Chronic bone marrow diseases such as a myeloproliferative disorder

Acute or chronic leukemia -- do you have other symptoms such as frequent fatigue, rapid weight loss, rashes, unexplainable fevers, etc?

-Tissue damage, such as from burns -- any accidents lately?

-High white blood cell count is associated with a worsening of insulin sensitivity and predicts the development of type 2 diabetes -- how is your blood sugar nowadays?

In conclusion, a high white blood cell cound can mean many things. My recommendation is to ask your physician to perform a very rigorous in-depth examination, including blood tests, etc...You also have to examine your life carefully so that you can arrive to an accurate diagnosis and treatment.

    Cheers!!

  5. It could be normal.  The reported counts are not the same.

RBC are repoerted as million cells per microliter and WBC as thousand cells per microliter.  The "normal" ranges are 4.6 to 6.1 million red cells and 4-11 thousand white cells, so the numbers can be higher or lower in a healthy individual.
