  1. Taking an honors class gives you no college credit.

Taking a AP class gives you no college credit.

After taking an AP class you can choose to take an AP exam in May. IF you score a 4 or 5 some colleges will give you credit.

Go on any college web site and they will list what AP subjects they take and what score is needed for credit and how many credits they will give you. It may also depend on what your major is. For example, a college may give you 3 credits for a score of 5 for AP physics, but not if you are going to be a physics major. They may not give you any credit or the credit would be considered an elective credit.

If you take an AP test and do not score high, it isn't going to count against you. You simply don't get any college credit.

Most college students take between 12 and 16 credits per semester. 12 credit hours is considered a full time student.

  2. AP stands for Advanced Placement.  There is an standard test that every student takes at the end of the AP class, and your score (1-5) determines whether or not a college might give you credit for the class.  Honors classes are just advanced classes, not as advanced as AP, do not have standard curriculums or tests, and you don't get college credit for them.

However, not all colleges will give you credit for AP classes.  The higher-ranked schools may only let you use them to skip the introductory classes, but not grant you credit for skipping them.

  3. Here's the ranks of classes:

    1. "College Prep"---which means that it's a regular class that you take to graduate high school

    2. "Honors"---it's a step above regular, it's challenging, looks good on your transcript/report card, and may sometimes offer more high school credit depending on your school.

    3. AP or "Advanced Placement" ----these classes are the most challenging offered in high school. If you pass the AP Exam at the end of the course in May, you may get college credit for that course.

Some colleges only offer credit for a 4 or 5, and some colleges still give credit for a 3 (average).

The credits for a year in college vary depending on the college or university. You'd have to check with the specific school.

  4. no mostly only electives like computer programing, busness class things of that nature but it also depends on the college.

  5. You can do 2 things. With AP classes, you are allowed to take the AP test on the subject in May. If you score a 3-5, you are allowed to transfer it for credit, it really depends on the school though. Most will give you some kind of credit for a 3, but sometimes it is in electives, not the subject you took the test in because they want a 4-5 score.

You can also take an AP class with dual enrollment. If they offer this at your school, it means you are enrolled in both the highschool course and the college course. Of course, you will have to pay the tuition for the class though(probably $500-600).
