  1. Yes its equivalent to a GCSE i took the test two months ago and passed n my tutor told my dad its equivalent to a a grade B GCSE

  2. It is at the same level but it is not a GCSE. Tell the head of department to look at the QCA website - it lists all recognised qualifications.

  3. A level 2 numeracy qualification is considered to be the equivalent in level of a high grade pass at GCSE but it is not a GCSE.  Remember it is only a 40 question multiple choice paper not 2 extended exams and a lot of universities won't recognise it.  On its own it does not gain any UCAS points.

To get the full qualification you must complete Key Skills Numeracy - this involves a portfolio of evidence as well as the test.  Some universities are reluctant to accept this qualificaiton.  The numeracy test is shortly to replaced by a functional skills test but this will only be a portion of the GCSE and not an alternative.

If you go to AQA's website, for example, and seach for adult numeracy you will get more information.

Hope this makes things a little clearer.  All the best.
