  1. never even though of this but that would be a good idea for him and a dic|< move at that.

  2. How is this a move by him?  Just responding to the 1st answer.  I think everyone with a brain wants to get passed oil and gasoline.  The price is out of control and sooner or later, we are going to use it all up.  We need renewables as soon as yesterday, to say it a little goofy.

  3. short answer: yes.

The last time car manufacturers made serious efforts at efficiency gains was after the 70s oil crisis.  When gas is cheap, they sell Hummers.

  4. I think all the environmentalists see high gas prices as positive for the environment, assuming the substitutes we come up with for transportation will be less polluting.

But most environmentalists wanted higher fuel economy legislation, or a tax on gasoline that could have been used to fund research and development of cleaner methods, not to have the price of oil itself go so high on its own, which sends the money out of the US to the OPEC and other oil producing nations and isn't available for programs to help clean up the environment.

  5. Truth be told, Al Gore is a total hypocrite.  He has a huge personal carbon footprint, and is a great exponent of the view: "do as I say, not as I do".  This alone makes me doubt his belief in his "inconvenient truth".

Greenies want us to give up cars, but they offer no realistic solutions.

The American mentality is what gets most of you into trouble when it comes to fuel prices: you get an egregious tax concession for those big "SUV" things, and you don't do your homework: Big vehicle= Big fuel cost + BIG SERVICE COSTS.  A large proportion of the monthly budget that could easily have been overcome via the purchase of a normal car rather than a status symbol.

Al Gore has no issue with high oil prices because he can write off most of his expenses, and is easily able to afford pretty much and price that migh be charged for fuel.  I am sure he is complacently happy with his huge carbon footprint, able to excuse it away with having purchased carbon offset creditd from a company he probably owns.
