Question:

Does Alaskan Airlines have a policy to prevent someone with a bad sunburn from flying?

Someone told me they could not get on a plane in Florida because they had a bad sunburn and needed to get a doctor' s note to be able to fly. It will take 3-5 days for his sunburn to improve enough to fly so he can come back to work. Is he pulling my leg or is this true?

  1. If it was a really bad sunburn that appeared infected or otherwise a danger to passengers, then gate agents for that flight did have the right to deny boarding to your friend. The sunburn would have to be very bad, however. He could be possibly pulling your leg.

    -Happy flying!

  2. Though this is highly unlikely, it is permissible for airlines to refuse to transport a passenger that they believe will need medical attention on board without a doctor's note.  This is to avoid the costs associated with an emergency landing/diversion and maintain the health and safety of other passengers.

That being said, I fail to see how a bad sunburn would fall into this category.  If you're seeking proof, have Alaska provide him with verification that they refused to transport him.

    Good luck!
