Does Alltel charge you for unopened text messages?

I have an Alltel LG phone and do not have a texting plan. If a friend were to send me a text message and I did not open it, would I still be charged? Do I get charged automatically right upon receiving it?

Yes, you are charged for the text message, even though you have not opened the actual text.
