Does Andy Murray deserve the “BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award”? – Tennis Special
According to the Great Britain’s leading tennis equipment supplier, Racquet Depot, the world number three, Andy Murray, is the rightful contender of the “BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award”.
A high profile star stunned award ceremony is scheduled on 16th December 2012 at the Excel Arena in London. Until then, Murray needs to work hard on his fans to vouch a vote against him.
The representative for Racquet Depot UK, Paul White, told the media, "Andy has enjoyed a phenomenal year of tennis success. We’d waited more than three quarters of a century for our very own Grand Slam champ and now thanks to his
hard work, we’ve got one. Of course, the Olympic Games was undoubtedly the sporting event of the year, but Murray excelled their too, adding to Team GB’s impressive gold medal haul with a fine win over Roger Federer. If it had been Federer that had beaten
him just weeks earlier on that court for the Wimbledon title; and the passion that Murray showed in the aftermath melted many British hearts."
The Scot is the US Open champion and pocketed away a gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in the men’s single category. Further he proved his real worth when he secured a silver medal in the mixed doubled category with his compatriot,
Laura Robson.
The British professional has unquestionably come up a long way up, since the first time he stepped on the tennis courts. He is the first man in 75 years to win a Grand Slam title from England. However, the tennis participant definitely
faces a great deal of pressure and competition at the hands of the reigning world champions like Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Personally, he strongly believes that his 2012 tennis career has been the best so far. Murray started his year at a very average pace. At the Australian Open held at the hard courts of Melbourne, he faced the Serbian number one,
Djokovic, but was unable to fight back against his might.
For the other ATP tournaments, he advanced with a very casual game plan. He received a straight-sets loss at the hands of the Swiss veteran, Federer at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship. He received a shocker in the quarter-finals
of the French Open by the lower ranked Spaniard, David Ferrer.
The 25-year-old participant established his potency, when he battled through the Wimbledon Championships held at the green grass courts of London. Taking advantage of his home ground, he avenged his loss from Ferrer and rallied
past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals. In the final round, he was unable to contest against the Swiss Maestro.
Nonetheless, his winning momentum did not die and after numerous tireless efforts, he was able to break the ice by securing a trophy at the US Open, consolidating his success against the higher ranked Serbian. At the Shanghai Rolex
Masters, the world number one gave him a three-setter defeat, cautioning him that he is still not the best. The Brit is still not on the world number one spot and will have gear up his pace if he intends to accomplish his dream.
